Armed bandit on the run

CHILDREN fled as two armoured van guards were menaced with a gun during a hold-up in Melbourne’s north.

The officers were walking to their van in High St, Northcote, at 11.40am when they were approached by the gunman.

He demanded a bag believed to have contained cash then ran to a white Ford Econovan parked in Barry St.

The bandit then drove north and his van was later found in Union St, Northcote, near Merri Parade.

Children who were in the area ran into the safety of a shop during the drama.

Det-Sgt Andrew Stamper of the armed crime taskforce said it would have been a terrifying experience for anyone at the scene.

“It would have been extremely traumatic. It’s a pretty busy area,” he said.

Det-Sgt said investigators believed the man may have discarded a white hard-hat as he left the scene and urged anyone who had seen or found it in the Northcote area to come forward.

“I couldn’t believe it was happening, it was an absolute holiday camp,” he told The Cairns Post.

Is there anyone out there who actually thinks that this bloke isn’t telling the truth?
